BANGOR – A man from the Kennebec County town of Winthrop was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury on three counts related to possession, receipt and interstate transportation of child pornography over the Internet.

Adam Dean, 39, faces a maximum possible penalty of 40 years in prison and $500,000 in fines if convicted.

Dean was convicted in 1985 in Cumberland County Superior Court of sexual abuse of a minor. He first was indicted by a federal grand jury last July on one count of interstate transportation of pornography.

That count was expanded to three counts upon further analysis by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, with the result that a superseding indictment was handed up Tuesday by a federal grand jury in Bangor.

In the superseding indictment, Dean is charged with obtaining a computer disk that contained images of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct and of resending those images to other people on the Internet.

The alleged activity occurred between Jan. 24, 1999, and Sept. 9, 1999. Also indicted Tuesday was a Honduran citizen found two months ago in the Aroostook County town of Ashland after he had been deported from this country three years ago.

Wuilmer Hernandez-Fuentes, 27, is charged in two counts, illegal re-entry into the United States after deportation subsequent to a conviction for aggravated felony and fraud and misuse of an employment authorization card.

He faces a possible maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and $500,000 in fines if convicted of both charges.

Hernandez-Fuentes also is known as Lorenzo Acosta-Hernandez.

He first was deported in November 1997 after he was convicted two years earlier in the 15th Judicial Circuit Court in Palm Beach, Fla., of aggravated battery of a police officer.

He also is charged with lying on an application for an employment authorization card, stating that he had not used other names, that he had not been convicted of a felony or other serious crime and that he had never been arrested or imprisoned for violating the law.

Hernandez-Fuentes has been jailed since his arrest Oct.7.

Also indicted was Robert S. Rodriguez, 29, of Bangor who is charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

He is jailed on unrelated state charges.

If convicted as charged, he could be sentenced to a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
