I read a recent column concerning the retirement of your columnist John Day. It seems like just yesterday John and I were sitting around our fraternity house at the U of M and somehow were discussing when we were born. As it unfolded, we were not only born in Portland on the same day in the same hospital, but our mothers were roommates.
As the years passed, I would often read a column by John and would always wind up pausing and then chuckling about one of John’s habits at UMaine where he would retrieve a shirt for the day from the bottom of his used laundry bag while returning yesterday’s worn shirt to the top of the used laundry bag.
Anyway, I will miss John’s columns for many reasons and wish him well on the slopes of Sugarloaf Mountain in his retirement. Frederick L. Denico Vassalboro
