NEW SWEDEN – Union 122 board members named a new superintendent Tuesday night.
The board unanimously approved Rebecca Haskell of Caribou, who will assume the position Jan. 1.
Haskell has served as the union’s special services coordinator for the past 10 years. She also has held special-education positions in Caribou and Washburn.
Haskell will replace Peter Edgecomb of Caribou, who held the position for eight years.
Before serving as superintendent, Edgecomb was a vocational director and agriculture teacher and has tallied 38 years of experience in education.
“This [education] has been my life since I entered first grade,” Edgecomb said Wednesday. “I’ve never had another job.”
After retirement on Dec. 31, Edgecomb plans to vacation in Florida and then spend time raising Christmas trees and visiting grandchildren.
Haskell was in meetings on Wednesday and not available for comment on her new job.
Union 122 governs elementary schools in New Sweden, Stockholm, Westmanland and Woodland.
