The Dec. 6 Bangor Daily News stated that a new 800-megawatt gas fired power plant is being built 25 miles from the Maine border in Saint John, New Brunswick. The plant cost is $300 million, will employ 250 workers with high paying jobs and provide property taxes to Saint John.

The purpose of the plant is to supply Maine and the New England states with power. Why is this new plant 25 miles outside of Maine and not 25 miles inside of Maine? Canada benefits and Maine pays for the use of the power. Would it not be nice if this plant was inside the state generating employment, state taxes and good paying jobs for Maine people?

Looks like the same old story, Maine government is unable to bring industry into Maine. It appears that the telemarketing industry at $8.50 per hour is the apex of Maine economy.

People of Maine; hold onto your hats. When the country slips into the next recession. Maine will be in a depression as Maine continues to lose is economic base.
