FREEPORT – Residents in Winthrop and Paris don’t need to look any farther than their taps for good drinking water.

The Maine Rural Water Association says customers served by the Winthrop Utilities District and the Paris Utility District have the best-tasting tap water in the state.

The association does a taste test when it holds its annual conference.

Tuesday, judges gave Winthrop the award for best disinfected water. Paris won for best non-disinfected water, or water that isn’t treated with chlorine.

Winthrop took the honors in a taste-off with Paris and will be entered in a national taste test contest being held in Washington in May.
