Hayes powers Brewer to win

WINSLOW – A.J. Hayes scored two goals and notched an assist to lead the Brewer Witches to a 7-3 high school hockey victory over the Skowhegan Indians Saturday.

Josh Caldwell, Timmy Largay and Robbie Hayes each notched a goal and an assist. Jesse Simko and Jamie Mansfield each chipped in with a goal for the 1-0 Witches. Goalie Justin Bubar made 23 saves on 26 shots.

Scott Holmes led 0-2 Skowhegan with two goals and an assist while Brett Bilodeau tallied a goal and two assists. Goalie Tom Hopkins stopped 30 of 37 shots.

Bangor 5, Winslow 2

At Sukee Arena in Winslow, Kyle Baker scored three goals to lead the Rams past perennial Class B power Winslow.

Bobby Leavitt and Justin Libbey added a goal each for 2-0 Bangor. Kevin Cobb, Tyson Schroder and Billy Baker tallied assists while Chris Zielinski made 20 saves on 22 shots.

Chris Langlais and Scott Grenier scored the goals for 0-1 Winslow. Jeff Paquette and Grant Woodbrey had assists. Chris McCabe made 20 saves on 25 shots.

Boys basketball

Deer Isle-Stonington 73, Shead 55

At Eastport, Josh Bolton’s 23 points aided Deer Isle-Stonington in a win over Shead.

Justin Boyce tallied 12 points as Matt Perez, Roger Hardy and Eric Gray each notched nine for the Mariners.

Ben Maloney led the Tiger attack with 17 points. Adam Cox and Cliff Urquhart each netted nine points.
