Man, 23, arrested in assault on parents

ST. FRANCIS – A St. Francis man remains in the Aroostook County Jail on charges of terrorizing and assault stemming from an altercation last week.

Corey Ouellette, 23, was arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly assaulting his parents, Rodney and Joyce Ouellette, at their Back Settlement Road home, Maine State Police Trooper Tim Saucier said Sunday.

Police were called to the Ouellette home late Wednesday afternoon when Joyce Ouellette reported Corey had left home in his car, taking two rifles and threatening to go to the Fort Kent residence of Shirley Hafford to harm her and a male friend, Saucier said.

At the time, Saucier said, Ouellette indicated her son was drunk and high on marijuana.

Before he arrived at the Ouellette home, Saucier said he received a call that Corey Ouellette had returned to his parents’ house. When he arrived, Saucier said, Corey Ouellette attempted to run away and then began struggling with his father.

Troopers were forced to use pepper spray to subdue Corey Ouellette, Saucier said. A neighbor had managed to remove two .22-caliber rifles, which were not loaded, from Ouellette’s car. Ammunition for the rifles was found in the vehicle.

Ouellette was charged with two counts of assault, operating a motor vehicle while under intoxicants and terrorizing after he allegedly choked his father and slapped his mother.

Ouellette was arraigned last week and failed to make bail of $10,000 single surety or $5,000 cash or 24-hour custodial with an unsecured bond.

His trial is set for Jan. 3 at District Court in Fort Kent.

Saucier was assisted at the scene by Trooper Daniel Marquis.
