ALFRED – The man accused of hiding in the trunk of his former girlfriend’s car and attacking when she noticed it was ajar says he was defending himself.

Olin Williams, 21, of Wells is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Police say he attacked Sarah Lemay when she stopped her car last May after noticing the trunk was unlatched. Then he forced her into the trunk while leading police on a chase.

During his trial at Alfred Superior Court Monday, Williams’ lawyer said he never tried to kidnap or kill Lemay.

When he was arrested, Williams told police Lemay had attacked him and he put her the trunk so she wouldn’t get hurt. The trial was expected to continue.
