CAMDEN – An estimated $13,000 worth of tools was reported stolen from a construction site on John Street on Tuesday morning.

Police believe the theft occurred after midnight Monday.

Lt. Cameron Campbell of the Camden Police Department said Ken Nealley Inc., a construction contractor from Monroe, is building a structure for the Camden First Aid Association on the John Street property near the intersection with Simonton Street. The tools were stored in a trailer at the site.

When workers arrived Tuesday morning, they discovered that the trailer door had been forced open and most of the tools stored inside were missing. Workers had finished work about 4:30 p.m. Monday, Campbell said.

Police believe the burglary occurred after midnight because there is a lot of traffic through the area until late at night, he said. The amount of tools stolen would fill a pickup truck, he added.

Among the tools missing are: a transit and tripod, harnesses, drills, several kinds of nailing guns, a compressor, two routers, several electrical cords, three Makita circular saws, two Sawzalls, three gas cans and two diesel cans, a magnetic level and other items.

Many of the tools were engraved with the letters “KNI” or “Fineline,” Campbell said.

Police have no suspects, but an investigation is under way. Campbell said anyone who may have seen suspicious behavior at the site Monday night or early Tuesday morning should call police at 236-3030.
