BANGOR – A kitchen fire caused limited damage to a single-family ranch house at 534 Pushaw Road on Wednesday morning after a burner on the electric stove was left on. No one was home at the time, according to Assistant Fire Chief Scott Bostock.

One of the family’s four dogs died later of smoke inhalation and two were resuscitated at the scene, Bostock said. All four were taken to a veterinarian.

Bostock was unable to access the family’s name on the computer.

When firefighters arrived at the scene at around 11:30 a.m., flames had ignited the back portion of the house, according to Bostock, who said the fire was extinguished in a couple of minutes.

Bostock said he wasn’t sure if something close to the burner ignited or if a pot had been left on the stove. The first floor sustained smoke damage, according to Bostock, who said the family will have to make repairs before they can move back into the home.

Tankers requested from the Air National Guard and Glenburn were cancelled en route once Bangor firefighters discovered the fire could be quickly extinguished, Bostock said. The area is beyond Bangor’s hydrant system.
