CORINNA – The gifted and talented after-school program for SAD 48 elementary and junior high school pupils will start in January, with auditions in May for a musical production, “Hansel and Gretel.” The play will be presented May 17-18 at Hartland Community Center.
Lisa Neal, director, and Jennifer Moore, performing arts teacher for grades seven and eight, will work together to produce this musical.
All pupils in grades four through eight are invited to participate in the production in one or more of the following components: onstage for grades four through eight; backstage production crew for making sets and props for grades five through eight; and visual and graphic arts for grades four through eight.
Auditions for parts will be held at Nokomis Regional High School 5-6 p.m. until the week of the show, when the location will shift to the Hartland site.
Visual artists will work with Annette Houston at the Corinna School 3-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays for seven weeks, starting in February. They will be responsible for the art and graphics for the show, as well as learning about Germany, its customs, language and culture.
The backstage crews will work 3-5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning April 23, at Hartland School, with Susan Irish as instructor.
Another after-school program – Introduction to Foreign Languages: Spanish and French – will be taught by Fran Ovlatt in a six-week program at Corinna School, beginning Tuesday, March 6.
Busing may be arranged for pupils from other district schools to travel to classes at Hartland or Corinna, beginning at 3 p.m. Parents are responsible for transportation home after the activities.
Parents may call Corinna School for more information. Registration forms are available in all district elementary and junior high schools. For more information, contact Annette Houston at 368-2443.
