Why not Loring?

I read with interest your story (BDN, Dec. 7) on the proposed move of the Army National Guard to a new location in Caribou. What really caught my attention was that there was no mention of the obvious: Why not the former Loring Air Force Base? Now know as the Loring Commerce Centre, it is looking for new tenants and has state financial backing.

The Guard already has a presence there, refurbishing vehicles for the Army and other branches, not to mention the facilities that are already constructed to accommodate their mission. If the Army or any other branch of the government is truly interested in keeping budgets in line, this is where they should take a hard look. Take advantage of an existing opportunity while it still avails itself.
