Libra Foundation gives money to new museum

BANGOR – The Libra Foundation has awarded a grant of $100,000 to the capital campaign for the Maine Discovery Museum. The new children’s museum is scheduled to open in the former Freese’s building in downtown Bangor in February.

Created by the late Elizabeth Noyce in 1989, the Libra Foundation provides hope, opportunity and charitable assistance to a broad cross section of people and organizations in Maine.

“We are just thrilled with this generous vote of confidence by the Libra Foundation,” said Susan Carlisle, campaign chairwoman.

With the Libra Foundation grant, the capital campaign has raised nearly 97 percent of its total goal of $4.125 million, leaving only $130,000 to be raised.

Dedications are still being taken for the donor recognition wall in the front lobby of the Maine Discovery Museum. For $100 or more you can permanently inscribe your name, or the name of a child, grandchild or loved one.

For information, contact campaign headquarters at 941-0942.
