To those who would show their lack of civility by calling candidates names, I would like to remind them that each time they do, they contribute to the divisiveness now spread across the land and to that end the lack of success of public servants trying their best to be of service to those very name-callers.

Sen. Olympia Snowe has, along with Democratic Sen. John Breaux from Louisiana, formed a centrist coalition to try to work in a bipartisan way with other members to come to a consensus to get the work done. She and Sen. Collins, along with more than two dozen other members, are to be commended for this effort.

My feelings about the Florida ballot debacle are as strong as anyone else’s but we must look ahead. If we’re to have true “due process” as was cited in the Supreme Court’s decision as having been violated, we need to assure that every voter has access to modern voting equipment and voter education.
