With all the important things going on in the world, I feel almost guilty writing about something really close to home. But a snowy or icy sidewalk can be dangerous. Why do people shovel only a narrow path on their sidewalk – and only on the side connecting to their driveway?

Why do some people not clear their sidewalk at all? (The most senior woman on our street always has her sidewalk clear, and most neighbors diligently keep the snow off so the mail, the newspapers and the walkers can get through.)

Why do people pay snow plow drivers a lot of money and let them bank up the snow to block the sidewalk? And while I’m on my snowy soap box, why do people who walk their dogs let them leave messes on other people’s property?
