BANGOR – Mike Merritt scored three goals and notched an assist to power the Orono Red Riots to a 6-0 high school hockey victory over the Foxcroft Academy Ponies Saturday at Sawyer Arena.
Patt Skall notched a goal and an assist while Eric Gordon and Jay Kinzer tallied a goal and Ian Ferguson, Jake Hedstrom and Brian Caggiano added assists for the 1-0 Red Riots. Goalie Paul Pangburn stopped all 17 shots he faced.
Goalie Nick Pressey stopped 17 of 23 shots for the 0-1 Ponies.

At Sukee Arena in Winslow, John Motto scored off an assist from Jim Brown with 2:17 left in the game to lift the Crusaders.
Zack Means of John Bapst knocked in a goal to tie the game with 5:23 left. Means finished with two goals and an assist and Brown scored early in the game and had two assists. Dominic Binardo made 23 saves on 26 shots.
Wes Zemrak, Evan Smith and Scott Grenier each scored for the Black Raiders. Chris McCabe stopped 25 of the 29 shots he faced.

At Presque Isle, Andy Nagy led Gardiner over Presque Isle with two goals.
Shawn Kelley added a goal and an assist as both Kevin McKey and Ben Brown netted goals for the Tigers. Goalie Ray Jean stopped 16 of 18 shots.
Darren Carlisle and Steve LaPlante each notched goals as both Andy Beaulieu and Chad Sirois tallied an assist. Goalie Joe Grenier made 20 saves on 25 shots for the Wildcats.
