PITTSFIELD – Two 15-year-old boys, one from Pittsfield and the other from Detroit, were arrested early Sunday and charged with stealing a pickup truck from a Route 100 driveway.
Gareth Southard reported his 1988 Ford stolen about 6 a.m. and police discovered it abandoned less than a mile away.
There was a minimal amount of damage to the truck, said Pittsfield police Officer Jason Emery. The officer said Southard had left his keys in the vehicle.
Footprints from the truck led Emery to a nearby home, where he found three teen-age boys, who were brought to the police station for questioning.
Two were charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and charges may be pending against a third, said Emery.
All of the boys were released to their parents about 7:30 a.m. Their names were not provided because of their ages, said Emery.
During the teen-agers’ processing at Pittsfield’s police station, one of the boys knocked over a large oak table, strewing paperwork throughout the municipal building lobby.
“He just had a set-to with his mother,” said Emery.
No additional charges will be lodged, said the officer.
Pittsfield police were kept busy throughout the weekend, according to police logs.
Several accidents occupied officers and charges were filed against two men.
Justin Wells, 22, of Pittsfield was charged with criminal trespass of a Fairview Avenue residence about 10 p.m. Saturday.
He was warned earlier in the wake of a fight at that address not to return to the property.
At 1:16 a.m. Sunday, Anthony Cox, 19, of Old Town was charged with operating after suspension during a routine traffic stop.
Accidents were reported on Birchwood Terrace, Phillips Corner Road and Industrial Park Road, which was a rollover, but there were no injuries.
