FAIRFIELD – Two men were charged early Monday with alcohol violations in the wake of a traffic accident on Bray Avenue.

Jared Cofer, 20, of Pittsfield, was taken into custody on a probation hold and summoned for possession of liquor by consumption and failure to sign summons.

The car’s operator, Chad Damren, 18, of Fairfield, was charged with operating while under the influence.

According to Deputy Chief Darren Hooper, arresting officer Garrit McKee discovered Damren’s vehicle, a 2000 KIA, that had left the road, crashed through a fence and struck a tree. The vehicle had been destroyed and although both men had minor injuries, Hooper said they refused medical treatment. They were checked out at the scene by Delta Ambulance.

In Pittsfield, police were investigating the theft of $1,500 worth of glucose-monitoring strips at Rite Aid Drug Store on Somerset Avenue.

The strips, used by diabetic people to test their blood, reportedly come in small boxes, each of which costs about $80. The theft represents 20 to 25 of the boxes of strips.
