Burned pilot still listed in critical condition

BOSTON – A pilot who took off from Maine and crashed in New Hampshire last week is still in critical condition.

Fernando Santiago, 39, of Linden, N.J., was severely burned when the plane he was flying crashed in Chesterfield, N.H., last Tuesday.

He initially was brought to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, N.H.

Santiago later was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Lt. Lester Fairbanks of the Chesterfield Police Department said Santiago was heading from Lewiston to Albany, N.Y., when he radioed a distress signal.

Fairbanks described Santiago as an experienced pilot who often flew that route.

Authorities are still investigating the crash.
