BREWER – The United States Department of Agriculture has awarded nearly $2 million to the Brewer Water District, according to U.S. Rep. John Baldacci. The funding is being made available through the USDA’s Rural Development Agency.

Specifically, a $1,645,000 low-interest loan and a $334,000 grant have been awarded. The funds will be used for Phase II of a water line upgrade project. This improvement project will help to lower lead and copper levels in the water system. The low-interest loan is expected to be financed for 40 years at an interest rate of 5 percent.

“As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I am always pleased when the United States Department of Agriculture joins in partnership with communities to make investments that will improve the economy and quality of life for area residents. This significant funding will enable needed improvements to be made in Brewer,” Baldacci said.
