The Bangor Garden Club, organized and federated in 1954, has 56 members. The club is very active in many civic-development activities and garden-related projects. Our conservation pledge is: “I pledge to protect and to conserve the natural resources of the planet Earth, and promise to promote education so we may become caretakers of our air, water, forests, land and wildlife.”
In keeping with our pledge, we would like to see the Penjajawoc Bog and Marsh Stream protected. It is a unique area already negatively effected by urban sprawl. The many birds that are nesting there, some on the endangered or threatened list, along with other wildlife that make their homes there, stand to be in grave danger of being disturbed. The Penjajawoc Marsh and Bog Stream have the potential to become one of the most unique places in Maine for educating our children and the general population.
We wish to express our concerns regarding any development such as the current plan to build a Super Wal-Mart store, off Stillwater Avenue in Bangor, near the bog and stream.
