Howard propels Washburn past CAHS Panthers

WASHBURN – Liz Howard scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead basket, with about two minutes remaining, as Washburn earned a 52-48 schoolgirl basketball win over Central Aroostook on Thursday.

Howard, a senior forward who finished with a game-high 30 points, then hit five of six free throws down the stretch to preserve the win. Howard also pulled down 15 rebounds.

Jill Maynard and Crystal Blakney added 10 points each for the Beavers. Blakney also had eight assists.

For the Central Aroostook Panthers of Mars Hill, Gabe Smith led the way with 24 points, and Jessica Long had 11.
