BANGOR – U.S. Rep. John Baldacci announced Thursday that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a grant of $1,172,689 to Penquis Community Action Program. The funding will be used to support Head Start projects being conducted by the organization, which has its headquarters in Bangor.
Additionally, Western Maine Community Action of East Wilton has been awarded a $138,378 grant to bolster Head Start services in western Maine.
“Head Start provides valuable services to children and families. It offers the supervision, nutrition and skills development needed for children to succeed,” Baldacci said.
The substantial federal grants will enhance the work being done by Penquis CAP and the Western Maine Community Action to help youngsters get off to a good start in life, he said.
