Red Devils snap 27-loss streak

CORINTH – Crystal Parker hit a jump shot that sent Saturday’s Central-Penobscot Valley girls high school basketball game into the third overtime, then gave the Red Devils the lead for good as Central went on to win 65-59.

The Devils’ win snapped their 27-game losing streak that dated back to the 1998-99 season.

The Howlers never scored in the third overtime period while Parker and Jen Allen had three points each for the winners.

Allen scored 20 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the winners. Katie Ahearn contributed 11 points and Parker and Amy Shaw chipped in with nine apiece.

Meagan Cyr had a game-high 23 points for Penobscot Valley of Howland, and it was her jump shot that forced overtime with nine seconds remaining in regulation. PVHS missed two jumpers seconds later that could have won it.

Audrey Porter and Alicia Drost combined for 17 more points.
