RUMFORD – An apartment house fire that killed a boy last month has claimed another life.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office was informed Tuesday morning that a man who was critically burned died in a Boston hospital, said Stephen McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department.

Adam Richard, 25, was one of two people who either fell or jumped from the third floor while trying to escape the fire Nov. 18.

Richard’s 2-year-old son Nathaniel died from smoke inhalation, and Richard died Monday morning, said Maine Fire Marshal John Dean. The fire was traced to a candle that was left burning. Combustibles near the candle caught fire, and the blaze spread quickly.

The other victim who ended up tumbling from the third floor is continuing to recover from her injuries, Dean said.
