CAMDEN – Police followed footprints in the snow early Tuesday, but were unable to apprehend the person who broke into a Main Street jewelry store.

Lt. Cameron Campbell said an alarm sounded at Russell’s of Camden at 2:30 a.m. Officer Allan King was at the store within minutes, Campbell said, and discovered the glass front door had been smashed. A glass case inside the store also was smashed, and three or four watches were missing.

The value of the watches was not known, Campbell said.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Department and Rockport police sent officers to assist King. The officers followed the single set of footprints in the snow, but lost them on Washington Street.

Police are asking that anyone who saw someone walking on Washington, Gould or Mount Battie streets between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. to contact the department at 236-3030.
