Naccara among Jets signees

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Bryan Cox broke his season-long boycott of the media Tuesday without ever indicating that he’d re-signed with the New York Jets.

Mo Lewis wasn’t even around to comment on his new contract with the team.

The linebackers, both free agents, re-signed with the Jets just two days after the disappointing end to their season. The defensive leaders were expected to seek other offers, but liked the numbers the Jets came up with.

Those numbers were not revealed by the team. Phone calls to the players’ agents were not returned.

The Jets also signed all four members of the practice squad: receiver Malcolm Johnson, linebacker J.J. Syvrud, defensive lineman Jon Michals and tight end Steve Brominski. Two players cut at the end of training camp, center-long snapper Dennis O’Sullivan and linebacker Brent Naccara, were re-signed.

Naccara is a former UMaine standout.

“Most particularly, I think Mo Lewis is everything a football player is supposed to be,” coach Al Groh said. “He has been a terrific performer, is one of our own guys and knows how we like to do things. We wanted very much to make that come about. I’m very pleased about that.

“Bryan is in much the same category: tough, productive, a tremendous will to win.
