SAHS Warriors roll past Beavers

WASHBURN – Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook sprinted out to a 21-4 lead after one period and cruised to a 68-50 schoolboy basketball win over Washburn on Tuesday.

Jordan Shields and Corey Shields scored 16 points apiece for Southern Aroostook. Lucas Nadeau and Devon Wilkins added 12 points each.

Ben Umphrey scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Beavers.

At Houlton, the Shiretowners blew open the game with a 31-12 scoring binge in the fourth quarter and senior Peter Bates finished with 29 points in the win.

James Skehan pitched in with 20 points for Houlton while Andrew Drake added 16. Jay O’Connell scored 11.

Frankie Morrison paced the Dragons with 24 points. Bobby Ferry had 14 and Matt Lord scored 11.

At Orono, Jake Hedstrom led Orono with three goals and two assists while Mike Merritt scored two.

Will Toner scored two and had two assists while Pat Skall added a goal and had two assists. Nat Breece and Eric Gordon each had unassisted goals while Derek Williams had two assists. Nick Dwyer, Ian Ferguson, and Brian Caggiano all had assists. Casey Hale faced 15 shots and stopped 12 for the Red Riots.

For Stearns, Justin Cummings scored with an assist from Derek Helstrom while Tyler Pelkey scored with the assist going to Matt Michaud. Drew Somers added a goal with assists from Steve Rolfe and Michaud. Nick Simon stopped 32 of the 42 shots he faced.
