ELLSWORTH – Allan Talgo, 21, of Union pleaded innocent Wednesday to several charges stemming from an August accident that claimed the life of his younger brother.

Michael Povich, Hancock County district attorney, said Wednesday that Talgo, his brother, and three passengers were traveling south on Route 175 in Penobscot during the early morning hours of Aug. 4 when Talgo lost control of his 1998 Kia Sephia. The car became airborne and slid off the road, striking a telephone pole and sheering in half before it came to rest on a roadside lawn, Povich said.

The men were on their way to catch a low tide to go clamming, Povich said.

Povich said Talbot was driving recklessly and at excessive speeds, factors that led to the accident. Police reports indicate Talgo was driving at speeds of roughly 80 mph. The wreck killed Talgo’s 20-year-old brother, Vaughn, and injured three other passengers.

Talgo was indicted earlier this month on charges of vehicular homicide, manslaughter, aggravated assault and reckless conduct with the use of a dangerous weapon.

Povich said the accident was tragic in many ways, but that Talgo had to face the consequences of his actions. “There are no winners in this case,” Povich said.

Talgo has yet to retain a defense attorney. A trial date has not been set for this case.
