NEWPORT – Three women were injured late Tuesday night when the car they were in rolled over at least twice on Route 7 between Newport and Corinna.

The operator of the 1998 Ford sedan, Jennifer Romanov, 23, of Pittsfield was treated for minor injuries and released from Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield.

Her passengers, Terri Jean Grant, 21, also of Pittsfield and the owner of the car, and Jaime Jensen, 23, of Massachusetts, were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. By Wednesday morning, Grant had been discharged and Jensen, who suffered deep head lacerations, was listed in fair condition, according to an EMMC spokesperson.

According to Sgt. Sanger Davis of the Newport police, the accident happened about 10:15 p.m. when Romanov lost control of the car, which slid sideways down Route 7, went into the ditch and struck an embankment, causing the car to begin flipping. It ended up on its roof in the ditch.

Davis said only Grant was wearing a seat belt. None of the women were thrown from the vehicle, said Davis.

“They were definitely going too fast for road conditions,” said Davis.

The accident remains under investigation, he said, pending the results of blood-alcohol tests. Corinna Ambulance, SVH Ambulance and Newport Rescue and Fire responded to the accident to assist Davis.
