NORTHEAST HARBOR — A break in a Millbrook Lane residential water line Wednesday night left 25 homes without water.

The break occurred in a service line to a residence and sent water flowing over Millbrook Lane, according to Pat Perry, the manager of the Mount Desert Water District.

Perry said crews had to shut down a portion of the water main in order to stop the flow of water. It was that shutdown that cut the water supply to the other homes on that road.

A repair crew was at the scene early Thursday morning and had restored service to all customers before noon.

Perry said he did not know what caused the break, adding that it did not appear to be caused by frost in the ground.

Perry had no estimate on how much water was lost because of the break.
