Guilford powers Bucks’ victory

BUCKSPORT – Corey Guilford forced overtime by sinking one of two free throws with one second left and then popped in five points in the extra session to enable Bucksport to pull out a 76-69 victory over Houlton in boys basketball action Thursday night.

Jason Harvey finished with a game-high 33 points for the Bucks and he also made eight steals.

Guilford had 28 points and six steals.

Pete Bates’ 25 points, James Skehan’s 20 and Jay O’Connell’s 13 points led Houlton.

Matt Osgood also jumped ahead in the fourth quarter, scoring nine of 11 points. Derek Carlow contributed 16 points for the game.

Ben Umphrey led Washburn with 23 points and 21 rebounds.

At Machias, the Vikings built a 13-point halftime lead en route to the win over the Tigers.

Andrea Blanchard scored 14 points and Jessica Larrabee had 10 to lead Searsport.

At Orono, Asa Jones notched two goals to lead Maranacook to their third victory of the season.

Ian Harger, Derek Belair, Seth Emery, Tim Colomy and Gary Therren recorded a goal apiece. Goalie Matt Zeh stopped 18 of 20 shots for the 3-4 Black Bears of Readfield.

Matt Dupuis scored both goals for 1-4 Old Town. Griffin Dill, Josh Buzzell, and Jason Karam recorded an assist each. Jason Karam and Jeff Turcotte combined for 21 saves on 28 shots on net for the Indians.

Brewer 4, John Bapst 3

At Bangor, with 36 seconds left in regulation play, Will Prescott of Brewer turned a Josh Caldwell assist into a goal to break a 3-3 tie and place Brewer on top.

Prescott, and Caldwell had both recorded a goal apiece earlier in the game. Also scoring was Jamie Mansfield. Goalie Rob Elliott stopped 18 of 21 shots for the 3-2 Witches.

Jon Rudnicki, Chris Todd and Zack Means scored a goal apiece for 1-3 John Bapst. Todd also recorded an assist. Dominic Dinardo made 25 saves on 29 shots for the Crusaders.
