SURRY – A thief made off late Tuesday night with a local woman’s car, only to return it the next morning badly damaged inside and out.

Candice Croft, 43, told police that she left her 1989 Mercury Marquis outside her home Tuesday evening in its normal parking spot. Croft told police she awoke the next morning to find the car parked in a different spot.

She inspected the car to find “substantial damage” to the front end and interior of the vehicle.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
