Police seek indictments in motorcycle thefts

PORTLAND – A Buxton man and his son are expected to be formally charged with stealing $65,000 in motorcycles.

James Fisher, 52, was arrested earlier this week after police were tipped off that he had the bikes.

His son, Jim Fisher, 28, was questioned about the crimes but not arrested. Police said he will likely also be charged.

A search turned up five Harley-Davidson motorcycles, a tow truck and a Hallmark trailer. Police said all the vehicles were stolen since 1997 in Maine, Massachusetts and Virginia.

They said the vehicle identification numbers on the motorcycles had been ground off and re-stamped.

Police said both men will likely be charged with receiving stolen property. If convicted, they could each spend 20 years in prison.
