Telford announces expansion $36 million project to add 10 jobs at Bangor airport facility

BANGOR – Telford Aviation Services Inc. and Bangor International Airport on Friday afternoon announced a $36 million expansion at the company’s Bangor facility. The company estimated that 10 jobs would be added to its existing work force of 75.

The project is part of Telford’s expanding partnership with AGES, a division VolvoAero, which is a division of the international Volvo Group, according to Bob Ziegelaar, BIA director.

“VolvoAero will be bringing additional aircraft to Bangor for alterations and repairs,” he said Friday afternoon. “The $36 million primarily will be inventory that will go in the new 15,000-square-foot warehouse addition to the hangar facility already leased to Telford. This clearly demonstrates that a company can operate a worldwide distribution center from Bangor.”

Ziegelaar added that the relationship between Telford and AGES-VolvoAero has “really taken off in the last couple of years. We’re excited that the aerospace sector has targeted BIA for further development.” He predicted that more expansion at Telford is possible next year.

A year ago the two companies announced a $50 million joint venture, which included 30 new jobs at Telford’s Bangor facility. The development phase announced Friday will raise Volvo-Aero’s stake in the partnership to $78 million, according to a press release issued jointly by the two firms and BIA.

Volvo-Aero is expected to award Telford a multimillion-dollar contract to overhaul aircraft landing gears, wheels, brakes, starter generators, fuel nozzles and batteries. Telford is expected to have the new overhaul shops in operation by early summer.

Telford Allen III, president of Telford Aviation, could not be reached for comment Friday.
