DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Kara Crockett popped in a career-high 18 points to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 61-47 women’s basketball win over Bridgewater (Mass.) State in the opening round of the Land of Magic Classic.

Amanda Kimball threw in 13 points for the Huskies, who jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead in the first four minutes and never looked back. Niki Dominiczack had five points and seven assists, to go with eight rebounds. Southern Maine led by as many as 14 in the first half.

Danielle Ryan paced the Bear attack with 17 points.

Tracy Howard added 15.

At Daytona Beach, Fla., Troy Bigalke and Luke Witt netted 16 points each to lead the Johnnies of Collegeville, Minn., to a convincing 87-67 win over the Southern Maine Huskies in the Land of Magic Classic.

Wade Millett scored 13 points for the Huskies.
