Accidental electrical fire destroys Guilford home

GUILFORD – A fire on Tuesday that started in a computer destroyed a home on the Sebec Shores Road in Guilford.

The modern raised-level ranch home owned by Harold Carson was in flames when Guilford firefighters arrived at the scene at about 9:30 a.m. Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office were called to investigate the cause of the fire. Investigator Scott Richardson said Tuesday that the fire began in and around a computer that was located in the basement of the home.

He said the fire was accidental and electrical in nature.

Guilford Fire Chief Willy Williams said Carson and some friends were home at the time of the fire.

Carson called the Fire Department from his home before fleeing the building, he said. No one was injured in the blaze, but Carson lost all of his belongings.

The home was insured, according to Williams.

Water obtained from Salmon Stream on the Andrews Road was used to help extinguish the fire when the tanks were depleted.

Assisting Guilford firefighters at the scene were firefighters from Sangerville, Dover-Foxcroft and Monson.

Monson firefighters also remained on standby at the Guilford station.
