Jlynn Frazier got good news about her injured left knee after seeing a Bangor sports medicine specialist Tuesday.
Frazier, the starting point guard for the Bangor High girls basketball team, said Dr. Gary Parker thinks the pain and swelling in her knee is due to a cartilage tear and that the senior could only miss a week or two.
“He was very hopeful that I could come back soon,” Frazier said.
Frazier did not play Saturday against Nokomis of Newport, a 58-48 Bangor loss, and she won’t play in tonight’s game at Mount Desert Island. The Class B Trojans are 6-0 and ranked third in the Heal Points that were released Tuesday.
Frazier said Parker gave her a prescription for an anti-inflammatory medicine to reduce the swelling. Parker will re-evaluate her Friday.
Frazier thinks she injured her knee during warm-ups before the Rams’ game against Hampden Academy Dec. 22.
She said the knee felt funny before the game and mentioned it at the time to teammate Terra Curtis. But Frazier, who was an all-Big East player last year and one of the team’s leading scorers this season, started against the Broncos and scored 10 points in the Rams’ 67-47 come-from-behind win.
Bangor is currently 3-1 and ranked second in the Eastern Maine Class A Heal Points.
Frazier would also miss a string of Big East Conference home games against Old Town (Jan. 5), John Bapst of Bangor (Jan. 9) and Presque Isle (Jan. 15).
