MANCHESTER – Nine Maine baseball coaches are among the first class of 10 people to be inducted into the Maine Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the association announced recently.

The inductees include coaches Gerry Duffy of Caribou High School, Vic Woodbury of Cape Elizabeth, Mount Ararat of Topsham’s Bruce Kingdon, Packy McFarland of Scarborough, Lisbon’s George Ferguson, and Mountain Valley of Rumford’s Ted “Bitsy” Iona.

Posthumous inductees are Presque Isle’s Jim Dyer, Edson Hadlock of Portland, Fred Harlow, a former Deering of Portland and Westbrook coach, and Babe Ruth Baseball coach Dick McGuire.

Webber Oil president Larry Mahaney was also selected for induction based on his contributions at both the high school and collegiate levels.

The MBCA picks Hall of Fame inductees based on contributions to baseball in Maine, coaching longevity, integrity, professionalism and the ability to teach the game.
