ALFRED – The fourth suspect in the burglary of a Lebanon auction house that preceded a shootout in Chicago was returned to Maine on Tuesday after he waived extradition from Connecticut.

Christopher Parady was booked into the York County Jail, where he was held on charges of kidnapping, burglary and theft. Police said the kidnapping charge stems from the Dec. 9 burglary, but did not provide details.

Parady, 23, of Sanford, was retrieved from a Connecticut jail by a state trooper and detective, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Authorities hope Parady will shed light on the actions of two other suspects who ended up in a fatal gunfight with police in a Chicago train station days after the Lebanon robbery.

Police believe Parady helped two men – former Wells residents Andrew Ross and Daniel Wentworth – take $30,000 from the Lebanon auction house.

Another suspect, Michael B. Sales of Broomfield, Colo., surrendered to Maine State Police last week. Police believe he rented the sport utility vehicle found by the auction house.

The vehicle contained guns, a grenade launcher, tranquilizer guns, ammunition, night-vision equipment and cash.

Police said Ross, 25, and Wentworth, 26, were at Chicago’s Union Station to board a train for Tucson, Ariz., on Dec. 12.

They were armed, wearing bulletproof vests, had no identification and were carrying $15,000 in cash, according to police.

Police said they fired after Wentworth opened his jacket, exposing a .40-caliber pistol, and Ross pointed his weapon at an officer’s head.

Ross was killed and Wentworth was injured seriously.

Officials have charged Wentworth with first-degree murder in Ross’ death, saying his actions led to the shooting.

He is being held on a $3 million bond and is to appear in court Jan. 5.

Sales was charged with burglary and released on $3,000 bail. He is to appear in court Jan. 10.

Parady’s bail was set at $100,000 at the York County Jail. He is expected to be arraigned today or Thursday.
