Morneault helps Owls to OT win

MARS HILL – Melissa Morneault hit a free throw with 30 seconds left in overtime to give Madawaska a 50-49 schoolgirl basketball win over Central Aroostook on Wednesday.

Christine Cyr scored 19 points while Meghan Marshall added 17y for Madawaska.

Gabrielle Smith scored 16 for Central Aroostook, including a hoop at the buzzer at the end of regulation time that sent the game into overtime. Sarah McCrum and Jessica Long added 13 each.

At Houlton Tuesday, Joe Gahagan knocked in the game-winning goal with 7:54 left in the third period and the Wildcats held the Black Hawks from there.

Andy Beaulieu and Darren Carlisle each scored twice for Presque Isle, which took a 5-3 lead in the third. Carlisle also had two assists and Bealieu had one. Joe Grenier made 30 saves on 34 shots.

Ben Carton netted two goals for Houlton-Hodgdon. Jared Sylvia and Luke Fitzpatrick scored in the third. Brandon Carmichael stopped 25 of the 30 shots he faced.
