Caribou B&B owners create CD

CARIBOU – Kate and Kevin McCartney have released a compact disc of songs recorded live at their bed and breakfast, the Old Iron Inn Bed and Breakfast on High Street.

For the past seven years, at 7 p.m. every third Friday of the month, the McCartneys have held a music night for area musicians. The CD, titled “Live! At the Old Iron Inn,” features 21 songs, many of them original works.

The musical event started in August 1993 in response to a musician guest who asked about a musical venue in the area. To fill the need, the McCartneys called around and invited several Aroostook County musicians to come and jam on an evening the guest would be present. The McCartneys said the guest didn’t show up, but the musicians did, and they have been performing at music night ever since.

The CD represents the work of more than a dozen Aroostook County musicians. A special feature of the recording is an a cappella song by Kate Scheidler of Stockholm, and five original songs by Jan and Evelyn Kok of Presque Isle. Other artists include Ken Gilman, Bruce Wilkins, Larry Park, Barbara Miller and Frank Hopkins, all of whom are regular performers at music night.

The “Live! At the Old Iron Inn” CD is available for purchase at the Old Iron Inn Bed and Breakfast, 155 High St., or call 492-4766.
