Religion is finally being taught as a subject in most school systems after being ignored for many years, but the information given to students in the early grades is too superficial, according to a new report by the Council for Islamic Education and the Freedom Forum’s First Amendment Center.

The report says that by the time most students have completed 10th grade, they have been taught at school about the world’s major religions. The study found that nearly every state now mandates teaching about religion in public school social studies classes.

But it also found that many American history courses don’t cover developments in religion after the Civil War.
