ENFIELD – A 42-year-old Enfield man was killed late Saturday when his snowmobile crashed into a mailbox at the end of his own driveway.
Scott Nicholson of Mohawk Road had been riding down the road, according to Maine State Police Trooper David Millett, when he lost control of his 1989 Polaris Indy 400.
The sled went off the left side of the road, became airborne and struck the mailbox. Nicholson was propelled into a utility pole, said Nicholson.
He had been riding with several others who had taken a different route back to Nicholson’s home. The accident was discovered when they arrived back at the home.
Millett said the incident was reported to state police at 11:42 p.m. “Speed and alcohol were definitely factors in this accident,” said Millett.
