FREDERICTON, New Brunswick – The University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls captured the St. Thomas Tournament Saturday with a 56-49 victory over Mt. Allison University in women’s basketball action.

The Owls knocked off tourney host St. Thomas 71-68 in overtime Friday night.

Rachel Underwood and Lisa Dolley each netted 16 points to lead UMPI past St. Thomas.

Erica McGary notched 15 points for the Owls while Rachel Larlee put in 12.

Jen Little led the St. Thomas attack with 15 points as Heidi Park tallied 14 and Kristin O’Route had 10.

On Saturday, Underwood’s 17 points paced UMPI to victory over Mt. Allison in the championship game.

Both McGary and Dolley netted 12 points for the Owls.

Krista Harrison led the Mt. Allison attack with 10 points while Jen Doucet chipped in eight.

Allison Coleman contributed 16 more for the Warriors.

Erin Shaw made five 3-pointers and scored 21 points for the University of Southern Maine. Amanda Kimball tossed in 13 and grabbbed 10 rebounds while Kara Crockett scored 10 more.

Women’s hockey

Maine women split two

At Orono, Kelly Nelson scored one goal and assisted on two more to help the University of Maine post a 4-2 win over Yale on Saturday, but the Black Bears gave up two late goals on Sunday and fell 4-3 to Princeton.

UMaine junior Raffi Wolf scored her sixth goal of the season and became the school’s all-time leading scorer in Sunday’s game.

Wolf’s 76 career points surpasses the 75-point total of Alison Lorenz.

In Saturday’s game, Meagan Aarts, Karen Droog and Emily Stevens tallied goals for Maine. Tracy Caridade and Kate Robson notched assists. Dawn Froats made 18 saves.

Sarah Wood and Deanna McDervitt notched goals for Yale, which dropped to 2-12-0, 1-10-0. Nicolette Franck made 27 saves.

In Sunday’s game, Gretchen Anderson scored two goals in a 1:22 span of the third period to spur the Tigers.

Anderson scored the equalizer with 7:11 to play and the game-winner with 5:49 to go in the game.

Andrea Kilbourne and Jessica Fedderly scored the other goals for Princeton, which improved to 7-7-2, 3-7-2 in league play. Kilbourne added two assists while Anderson had one. Sarah Alquist made 23 saves on 26 shots.

Droog and Andrea Keller contributed a goal apiece for the Black Bears, who dropped to 8-8-0, 3-7-0. Wolf scored her record-setting goal while Aarts, Nelson and Cindy Biron notched assists. Lara Smart made 30 saves on 34 shots.
