Emery powers PCHS Pirates past Red Devils

GUILFORD – Backup guard Karoleanne Emery scored 11 of her team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter Wednesday night, including a shot from the lane with two seconds left, lifting Piscataquis to a 44-42 victory over Central.

Sandi Haskell scored 13 points for the Pirates, who earned their first win of the season.

Katie Ahearn tossed in a game-high 18 points for the Red Devils of Corinth. Jen Allen contributed 12.

At Dexter, Ashley Foster led a quartet of scorers in double figures with 14 points as the Tigers notched the come-from-behind victory in overtime.

Karen Nelson and Kristin Gilbert each scored eight of their 10 points in the fourth quarter and Kristy Veazie scored six of her 12 in overtime. Foster also grabbed 14 rebounds.

Holli Nichols scored 14 points and Amy Kelley added 10 for the Ponies.

At Hampden, Justin DiFrederico scored 18 points to lead the Hampden Academy Broncos to victory over his father’s previously unbeaten Nokomis Warriors of Newport.

Ben Keller went 4-for-4 from the free throw line in overtime en route to 11 points and five steals for the Broncos. Owen Caron kicked in 15 points and Adam Russell had 10 rebounds.

Ryan McLellan scored 30 points to pace the Warriors, coached by Jim DiFrederico.

At Sukee Arena in Winslow, Josh Caldwell scored two goals, one unassisted, and assisted on the other to lead the Brewer Witches past Lawrence of Fairfield.

For the 5-4 Witches, Robbie Hayes scored the other goal and assisted on another. Justin Boober made 17 save on 18 shots.

For the 1-7 Bulldogs, Will Richard scored on a Chris Warren assist and Everett Flannery made 33 saves on 36 shots.
