Watson catalyst as Riots triumph

ORONO – Daryl Watson notched five steals in the second quarter and turned four into transition baskets to spark a 21-10 scoring run as the Orono High School Red Riots knocked off the defending state champion Penquis Valley High School Patriots 63-54 Thursday night..

Watson finished with 23 points for the winners. Mark Mehuren chipped in with 19 points and Mike Ulrich netted 12.

Jeremy Allen poured in 31 points to power Penquis and Buddy Webb added 10. Penquis outrebounded Orono 29-23.
