GARLAND – Jacques and Deena Weinstein and their family have received the 2001 Outstanding Tree Farmer award from the Maine Tree Farm Committee.

The Weinsteins have owned 52 acres of woodland since 1972 and their property was certified as a tree farm in 1981.

A harvest took place on the property in 1994, and a 2000 harvest still is continuing. The couple has done all their own noncommercial work, including road construction, maintenance of trails and a fire pond and pruning of high-quality white pine.

The family members also have thinned more than 35 acres of property, and in 1999, cleared ice storm debris from all 5,000 feet of trails.
