MAINE vs. NEW HAMPSHIRE

Time, site: Sunday, noon; Whittemore Center, Durham, N.H.

Records: Maine 4-10 (1-4 America East); New Hampshire 4-10 (2-3)

Series, last meeting: Maine leads 30-13; Maine won 70-60 on 2/12/2000

Key players: Maine – 6-1 F Heather Ernest (11.8 ppg, 9.0 rpg), 6-1 G/F Julie Veilleux (10.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg), 5-10 F Kizzy Lopez (10.4 ppg, 3.6 rpg), 5-9 G Melissa Heon (4.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg), 5-9 G Tracy Guerrette (4.3 ppg, 3.5 apg), 6-1 F Anna James (5.2 ppg); New Hampshire – 6-3 C Anna Matthias (12.9 ppg, 5.8 rpg), 5-9 G/F Kelly Donohue (9.0 ppg, 4.3 apg, 2.1 spg), 5-8 G Heidi Plencner (8.9 ppg), 6-3 C/F Maren Matthias (7.1 ppg, 5.8 rpg), 6-0 F Taylore Jarvis (6.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg)

Outlook: The Bears continue the quest for their first victory of the season on an opponent’s home court. UMaine, which has lost four in a row, has won the last seven meetings at Durham. This game between two struggling ballclubs could be sloppy, as UMaine turned the ball over 30 times in Friday night’s 11-point loss at Stony Brook and is averaging 24 per game. The Wildcats cough the ball up 22 times a game. UNH has a decided edge in experience and may try to capitalize on the inside game led by the 6-3 Mathias sisters. However, the ‘Cats haven’t rebounded well and have been among the most anemic offensive teams in the league (57.9 ppg). UNH is coming off Monday’s 62-46 win at Boston University, which snapped a five-game losing streak.
