Sun blamed for crash at Route 1 intersection

CAMDEN – Sun shining on a traffic light was blamed for a three-vehicle accident on Route 1 on Friday afternoon.

Officer Curt Andrick said Jessica Dickey, 17, of Camden was traveling north when the sun shining on the traffic light near the entrance to the Graves’ supermarket plaza made it indiscernible. Not sure if the light was red or green, Dickey slowed, and her 1993 Nissan was struck in the rear by a 1987 Toyota driven by Erica Adolphsen, 17, of Hope.

Adolphsen’s car was struck in turn by a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Jennifer Donner, 16, of Lincolnville.

Adolphsen and her passenger – whose name police did not know late Friday afternoon – were taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center with what the officer believed were minor injuries. Dickey and Donner were wearing seat belts. The officer had not been able to ask Adolphsen and her passenger whether they were wearing seat belts, he said.

Andrick said the vehicles had substantial damage.
